In Blood and Iron, the Hebrews - now organised into the kingdom of Israel - face several problems - not only are they in the line of fire in a new Middle Eastern conflict, they too are a satrapy of Egypt and are obliged to pay tribute to Egypt each turn. While they do enjoy some protection from having so many allied armies nearby, it weakens the Israeli player's ability to resist any offensives from the east by way of diplomacy, since their position is tied into that of Egypt's. Until Egypt is destroyed, or the Israelis break their alliance with Egypt, they won't be able to sue for peace or negotiate new alliances, although it can be argued that new alliances are not necessary.

As part of the Middle Eastern factions, Israel has one path open, and it is that of military dominance. As there are many lands which have been destabilised by the Bronze Age collapse three centuries ago, there is an opportunity for the Israeli player to expand southward into Arabia. So the first step Israel should do is to overrun Aram with Hittite help. Aside from its Mercenaries Bonus Card and a small amount of Tribute, Aram has one thing that is vital for victory in Blood and Iron - a Supply Centre. Seizing Aram will provide Israel with an extra army - a vital resource in a map with over a hundred territories - and the ability to defend itself.

Once you take Aram for Israel, the question now is what will happen next - an all-out crusade against Babylon and Assur, or a race down into the Red Sea? it will depend very much on your play style and whether you choose to cooperate with Egypt or not. Staying with Egypt means having a strong ally to help watch over your capital, yet it also can mean that you will be financially drained and left diplomatically isolated in the long run. Yet reneging on your satrapship with Egypt could be profitable, as it would leave you with greater freedom to chart your destiny. It is all up to you to decide. But you will still have to find a way, eventually, to seize control of your Iron Mines and/or Supply Centres, before it is too late.
