In Blood and Iron, Assur has just recently conquered the lands of Purattu, and is poised for more conquest. Because the whole world is in turmoil, and many areas have fallen into anarchy, it is but a matter of time before someone claims them and Assur is very well-prepared for such a prospective enterprise.

Whereas most factions in the known world rule only one territory, Assur can take pride in knowing that her king, Adad-nirari II, has effectively consolidated control over Purattu after a hiatus of two centuries. Even so, there is very little room for Assur to do anything but one thing that can most certainly be done early on is to seize the border region of Zamua. Zamua, while poor in wealth, forms a buffer between Elam and Babylon. Seizing this strategic territory through overruns using the Iranian army should be done first so as to deny Babylon and Akkad any chance of reinforcing each other, and to seize Zamua's Iron Ore wealth for your own use.

The next step is to use your other army - the one in Purattu - to your own ends. However, this won't be easy. Two territories — Egrisi and Mannaea - are open north of you and seizing Egrisi could be a good idea as it will stop Urartu from growing eastward. Yet on the other hand, a quick strike against Urartu or Babylon might be preferable, but it would be risky - losing the battle, especially the one against Urartu, could well leave Assur open to attack from Babylon, or even the Egyptian satrapy of Hatti based in Phoenicia. It may simply be better to simply seize Zamua, and then prepare to attack Babylon to reduce the pressure from the south once you are better prepared to resist with a higher territorial strength and/or Bonus Cards that would allow you to take Babylon down in a single strike.
