Overall strategy[edit | edit source]

In Rise of Nations, the Worker unit is the single most important unit in the game and in Warbirth, the Peon is no exception. But while normal Citizens cost food and require ten seconds to be created, in Warbirth the Peon has an accelerated build speed ... but a higher cost, this time requiring almost 10 Wealth per new Peon unit. So while you can raise a vast labour force in no time as long as you have enough Food and Wealth, the need for an extra resource just to raise new Peons can pose problems from the early game onward. Equally, Peons are extremely weak and vulnerable to almost any other unit, especially ranged cavalry so you must protect the bulk of your work force at all times - get Tower and Hovels to obtain levy units to protect your Peons from attack at all times.

Unit summary[edit | edit source]

  • Working Caste — The primary functions for the citizen is to harvest resources (food, timber, and metal), create and repair structures.
  • Weakest of Them All — Note, however, that Peasants are extremely weak, so build Towers and raise Peasant Levy to protect Peasants from enemy attack.

Notes[edit | edit source]

Depending on what factions you play as, Peons can have five different appearances:

History[edit | edit source]

At the end of the last Ice Age, many humans decided to stay put instead of migrating any further. Communities grew denser and they had to draw more resources from a smaller area. Using their learned knowledge from the environment, humans began to experiment with agriculture, which became a revolution. Farming produced a surplus of food, allowing others to take up new work. Societies became diverse, populations exploded, and collective learning thrived, leading to more innovations which then fuelled an increase in mankind's ability to exploit the environment better. Fueled by surplus crops, people living in agrarian communities could specialize in jobs other than farming. New roles and complex, interdependent societies emerged. Elites, farmers, and the menial classes became intertwined and the toeholds of the first cities took shape. States began to function as a coordinating mechanism among these sophisticated relationships. And the state could impose its will by force.
