Overall strategy[edit | edit source]

Jungle Hunters are stealth infantry units, capable of sniping enemies from under cover. Like all Jungle Mercenaries, they are all cloaked when not moving, but are also the slowest and weakest among all the Jungle-class mercenaries. For this reason, they are valuable, especially since most units in Warbirth tend to be humanoids or cavalry. Because these units make no sound when attacking, they are often a valuable asset if used in multiplayer games, where they can be used to attack unsuspecting enemy units. Unless pickets are established to screen for ambushes, your opponent may hear that their units are being attacked and are being felled one by one, yet will be hard pressed to duly find out who their assailants are -- until it is too late.

Jungle Hunters are best deployed behind units such as Mantlets or ringed by shieldmen, although in the world of Warbirth what defence infantry can provide remains fairly debatable. Note that while these units are stealthed, they however have poorer range than Skirmisher Levies, even though they are clearly more than capable of moving across the landscape unseen. Equally problematic is the fact that while they are capable of becoming invisible, they are not able to detect hidden units — they are thus very vulnerable to units such as Spies. In fact, if you see your enemy has any Jungle Hunters, you can try to corrupt them with Spies in order to then use them against their former masters, owing to their very powerful attack which can incapacitate most units.

Notes[edit | edit source]

In Age of Empires, Jungle Hunters like all Jungle units change appearance in the second age, taking on skins from Swords of the Prophets.

This unit's audio also changes. Whereas in Age of Chariots and Alexander it speaks Tamil, in Age of Empires it speaks a mixture of different languages - Malay and Bamar in Age of Empires, and Maya and Thai in Swords of the Prophets. Olmec-raised versions of these units also speak Mayan.
