Funan

Faction Overview Strategic Overview History
Funan have the power of Honour.

On a headland, jutting out into the Southern Sea lies Funan — a vast collection of towns and villages fronting the vast, wide ocean. Of late, this vast and powerful nation has begun to make its presence felt across Asian waters, owing to her vast seaside frontage, as well as the position of her metropole - Vyadhapura - in the southern Mekong basin. Chinese demand for Roman glass, as well as the world's demand for silk have created a unique position in southeast Asia that the princes of Funan have not been slow to exploit.

However, as rich and lucrative foreign trade may be, it too has brought problems along with it. A group of barbarians — the Pyu — have begun to rise to prominence west of Funan, and may pose a threat to Funan's prosperity. Equally troublesome too are the wars in China, between her western overlords and the kingdom of Nanyue, ruled over by the renegade Ciuq clan. Any one of these could well be a source of stress that could overthrow Funan's overlordship at any time: if anything, it will be in the interests of Funan's dynasts to seek a means of fully uniting the cities of Funan to resist this coming storm.

True to its heritage as a former pirate raiding base, Funan's armies are proficient at one thing - and that is marine operations. The proximity of Funan to the sea, as well as the seemingly limitless bonanza of timber in its southeast Asian homeland endow the Funanese faction with savings when it comes to construction of ships — both military and civilian — as well as Farms which then can be converted into soldiers to impose your will on your rivals.
