The Malays have the power of Migration.

Like scattered seeds adrift in the wind, the Malays are a race of wanderers, settlers and warriors who haunt the many islands of the South China Sea and are also kin to the Polynesian peoples of the Pacific. As a result, the Malay civ is one known for its resourcefulness and ability to survive on small tracts of land where others struggle to build farms to fuel their demographic growth. Equally impressive, too, is the Malay roster for marine units: some vessels, like the Longships, are already know to be highly proficient sea fighters. But it is ultimately the Malay penchant for being able to settle and adapt that may unlock the secrets of greatness for the Malay peoples.

While a few tribes have settled in and begun farming on the most fecund lands wherever they are found, the near-lack of arable land throughout the so-called Malay archipelago and the vast chains of islands farther east beyond often limit the potential for the Malay and Polynesian peoples from fully developing a sedentary lifestyle, keeping vast numbers of the Malay people forever adrift on the wide oceans, where they have become proficient sailors and boat builders. Yet for all their ingenuity, the Malays remain a people divided, even as their Chinese and Indian counterparts have begun the struggle to establish states with social order and centralised economies for peace and war alike. Only time will tell if there is still a place for the Malays in centuries to come, or if they like so many rustic folk will be consumed by this brave new world of bronze-clad champions and kings with godlike powers.
