Overall Strategy[edit | edit source]
Some things never go out of fashion, especially in the bellic arts. Discipline, solidarity, courage and skill are traits which are highly desirable in soldiers, and have been seen as the hallmarks of the Roman legio. The Roman Miles (Latin: "fighters"; "soldiers") continues this proud tradition with a twist — it is not just as well-trained and disciplined as the Pedites Evocati which it replaces, but it too also has the benefit of upgraded armour and weapons, thus providing the old Roman buzz saw with a fresh set of new teeth to maintain the cutting edge of Egyptian and Roman armies in the Imperial Era.
Of course, however, there are some things that the Miles simply cannot compete against. One of these is heavy cavalry, be it of the ranged or melee kind. True, the Roman Miles can be a tough unit, but it is ill equipped to resist a cavalry charge by some of the heaviest cavalry units Warbirth has to offer. Equally problematic are units with good range, or capable of powerful attacks at a distance, such as Levy Crossbowmen or Scorpions. Even humble horse archers, despite the weak strength of their salvos, can easily wear a Miles unit down in no time unless suitable counters are sent to neutralise them.
Unit summary[edit | edit source]
- Professional Corps — As a highly disciplined unit, the Miles is strong and tough, but also expensive to recruit.
- The Arms Race — Armour piercing weapons are highly dangerous to Miles units — so screen your units against enemies, especially Levy Crossbowmen, at all costs.
