Mán Horseman
From Warbirth Wiki
"I am only a Man, but I am not wholly ignorant of war. If you, o Minister, let me return to my ravines I will muster another army and fight a decisive battle with you."

Overall strategy[edit | edit source]
Understandably, the Mán peoples are not known for horsemanship - and this lack of expertise shows (not to mention the lack of good mounts). However, what the Mán Horseman may lack in tactical parameters, it gains back in two areas - firstly it is a mercenary and like many mercenaries can be raised quickly for vast sums of Wealth. The next part to this equation is its ability to travel stealthed, unlike conventional Horsemen.
This thus marks Mán Horsemen for a different role - that of being a cross-border infiltration unit. With its use of an axe in place of a spear, it can deal a little more damage versus enemy structures and siege weapons, thus allowing these units a means of attacking and destroying siege weapons early on. In Age of Chariots, this can be a viable strategy, since a lot of siege weapons tend to work only at melee range. In Age of Empires, however, you are well advised to upgrade these units to become Yelang Champions as soon as possible owing to the existence of very good cavalry units on most factions' rosters.
Unit summary[edit | edit source]
- Float Like A Butterfly, Sting Like A Bee — Scout Cavalry are meant to make quick and fast strikes on unarmoured foes.
- Keep Away From Sharp Sticks — The bane of Scout Cavalry units are spear-armed units such as Spearmen and Lancers — if you see any, run away!
- Alforrats — Catalan scout cavalry can be raised as mercenaries by the Sicilians, costing Wealth instead of Timber and Food and with a higher recruitment speed.

Notes[edit | edit source]
In Age of Empires, the Military research requirement is quashed; this was transferred instead to the unit it upgrades to: Yelang Warriors.
- Greek - "briefs" with simple leather helmet.
- Middle Eastern - wrap tunic, with fillet.
