Faction Overview Strategic Overview History

Aksum have the Power of the Highlands.

A mountain people surrounded by deserts and ocean, the people of Aksum are a race to whom the arts of war and business are not unknown, for the lands that surround their home city are not known for their fertility or arability, yet it is at the apex of power in the Old World — for not far from Aksum is the coastline of the Erythraean Sea, and beyond that, Arabia and the shores of distant India. And from further south, from the dark heart of Africa the Bantu peoples come with ivory, gold and slaves, seeking the refinements of greater peoples such as the Indians and the Greeks who are for all purposes now masters of Eurasia.

All this however belies the fact that the region of Ethiopia itself in the best of times be rich in money, but in the worst of times, be bereft of food. This is further complicated by the fact that Aksum is an area that is mostly inhospitable to all but the hardiest equine breeds, so like their Arab neighbours across the sea, Aksum has to rely heavily on dromedaries and elephants as opposed to horse cavalry. This is further supplemented by squads of toughened infantry and mercenaries, forming an Afro-Arab force consisting of camels and light infantry, all paid for with the wealth of many nations, that course through Aksum and her richer neighbour, the kingdom of Da'mot.
