- Strengths: Good navy, strong defence.
- Weaknesses: Highly primtitive army. Very mediocre land force with no heavy units or cavalry. Almost no Wonders.
Not all of the world of the Age of Chariots is dominated by vast and socially complex nations girt with bronze-clad warriors. Many of them are practically still stuck in the Stone Age whilst attempting to assimilate metal technology - and Choson is no exception.
The main draw of Choson lies in two areas — city defence, and naval warfare. Attacking a Choson city early on is usually a bad idea, owing to the fact that Choson buildings are not only tougher and more easily built, but they too are more than capable of defending themselves without the need to garrison them with Peons. Equally, these buildings also can fire additional projectiles at the foe, so a city raid using anything other than dedicated assault units more often than not will result in tragedy for the attackers.
At sea, the Choson are not shortchanged on naval units. They are one of two Asian factions (the other being the Bach Viet) who are capable of raising naval forces more powerful than light War Boats. Having access to the Wing Barque and the Swooper means that the Choson excel well in naval actions, using the toughened Wing Barque for short ranged action, and Swoopers for fast melee assaults. If supported with fortifications using the aforesaid Choson bonus for buildings, the combination could well be very potent especially when the navy is used defensively.
Unfortunately, beyond this, there is little to speak of. While the Choson have some very advanced warships, their warriors are another matter altogether. Like the Basques and Germans, Choson is incapable of building a Barracks, so whatever professional infantry units are available for others, such as the Shang or the Babylonians, are simply absent. Corral units too are another problem - while the Choson do get the Light Horse and Javelin Cavalry upgrades, their lack of chariots early on - replaced by the Horse Raiders - leave them at a glaring disadvantage against other foes, particularly those with access to good cavalry units, such as the Egyptians or Indians.
