Age of Chariots

From Warbirth Wiki

A mod for Rise of Nations, concentrating on world history contemporaneous with the Middle and New Assyrian Empires - from the rise of Assyria to its fall.

In the 16th century BCE, the vast mass of humanity continues to live in tribes as their ancestors had done for aeons, depending on farming, hunting, gathering and herding. Nevertheless, a few people have learnt the secrets of metalworking, and using the magic of bronze, they have carved out vast empires across the world, dotted with mighty cities, led by a cult of human gods and their charioteer retainers.

Your people have been fortunate enough to have begun learning the ways of metallurgy, and none too soon, for this is a world rent by violence. Vast peoples from the interiors of Asia ride terrifying weapons of mass destruction across the world, while in the forests of Europe, wild tribes lurk, waiting to burst forth. Peace itself is an illusion, merely a pause after the fighting for the kings to rearm themselves and begin their struggles anew.

It is an age of war and heroism, when gods and men shall die, and new heroes and new kingdoms shall be born - like bronze, from the ashes of wars.

Units[edit | edit source]

Unlike other mods, Warbirth relies heavily on two sets of units: chariots and mercenaries.

Chariots and cavalry[edit | edit source]

Chariots are usually used by most factions but in later eras some of the barbarian factions will be able to recruit missile and melee light cavalry, making them far deadlier with regards to attacking other factions.

The Egyptian, Assyrian, Zhou and Babylonian factions are capable of raising cavalry forces, making them highly immune against most other factions with this regard.

At the beginning, only Slingers and Peasant Levy will be available from the Peasant Dwellings, and Spearmen and Axemen from your cities. To get better units that can be upgraded, a Barracks will have to be opened, with Swordsmen and Chariots being made available from Forts. Stables may be opened only later in order to recruit light melee and ranged cavalry.

Attrition and supply[edit | edit source]

Supply carts aren't available until the final age of Warbirth, so during the early eras, research logistics as quickly as possible in order to ensure the wellbeing of your armies, or else recruit a military leader.
