Why did you decide to make this mod?

I have to admit, the decision to do this mod took place as then DA3SH (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) was running amuck in northern Iraq and had, among other things, began to loot museums and also destroy historic sites, most notably the ancient city of Nineveh. In addition they had also been committing atrocities against countless thousands, including publishing the beheadings of some of their victims, most notably Japanese reporters Haruna Yukawa Kenji Goto in early 2015 at the hands of the then infamous militant, Mohammed "Jihadi John" Emwazi.

I realised at once that there was a parallel between the methods used by both DA3SH as well as the Neo-Assyrian Empire (whose ruined capital of Nineveh they had just destroyed, so I felt there was a need to express all my feelings over the matter. Thus was born Warbirth, which is probably only going to be the greatest Rise of Nations mod to date to cover the Bronze Age in any significant way.

Other games and mods feature Japan. Why is there no Japanese civilisation?

During the timeline of this mod, Japan was too politically fractured and not sufficiently developed to be sufficiently distinct from Korean (or rather, Southeast Asian) cultures.

It is for this reason that Wanokuni was dropped from Age of Empires, and the Japanese were replaced with the Malays in Rise of the Ancients.
