New changes to Hong's mod:[edit | edit source]
Style and faction changes[edit | edit source]
Clear the appearance of Thracians, Parthians and Odrysians - replace them with something more appropriate.
What factions are we dropping and adding?
Removed factions[edit | edit source]
- Van Lang => Bach Viet (HQC)
- Tai,
- Yelang,
- Dian
Too insignificant, didn't survive the Han dynasty.
- Minyue => Nanyue
Too boring - Nanyue is larger and more significant.
New factions[edit | edit source]
Adding:
- Tokharoi - more in line with the nature of this mod. Major conqueror of India and Central Asia.
- Sarmatians - historically significant faction that survived until the very historical end of this mod. Specialises in light melee cavalry.
- Aksum - ditto. Should share same build / unit set as Nubians. Aksum should have a sword infantry focus.
Romans[edit | edit source]
Infantry:
- H inf: Comitatenses, heavy sword
- L Inf: Numerii, light spears
- Archers: Balestarii
Cavalry:
- H cav, L cav, are consumed by Bucellarius
Ships: No Heavy or light ships - just the Dromond.
- NOTE: The main focus for Romans at this point is heavier, slower.
Appearance[edit | edit source]
- Comitatenses - their appearance does not change since they are an elite.
- Numerius: Now we are talking. We can have them have different helmets, and different sorts of clothes.
Egypt[edit | edit source]
Infantry: See Roman infantry
Cavalry?
- Bucellarius
- Dromedarii
Egypt eventually starts receiving lots of Arab mercenaries.
Greeks/Seleucids[edit | edit source]
No change, just a reskin for their units, BUT they get a lot of Arab mercs, shared with Egypt. BUT......
- Give Greeks a new unit, Hoplitai. Sits in the 4th slot along with other infantry.
Appearances?
- In [2] - can start adopting Indo-Greek appearance.
- We already have the parts for this - take out Super7700's old Silver Shield skin, as well as our old Indian thorakitai.
Indo-Greek soldiers:
- Head: Pilos, or Causia/Pakol-type flat cap.
- Body: A fustanella, or something of that sort. A chlamys/chiton is possible.
- Legs: Leggings, duh. Either trousers, or Greek style breeches and garters.
What if it affects other units using the same costume, like Illyrians?[edit | edit source]
Deal with it and suck it up Buttercup!
City names[edit | edit source]
Just pile in the Seleucid city names on to Hong's list.
Germans, Dacians[edit | edit source]
For Level 1 Odryisians - change the skin but let them train Greek units.
Level 2?
- H Inf: Heavy Falxmen
- Germans, Thracians? just impose the mercs from Swords of the Prophets.
- Horse retinue replaces all L Horse units in Europe=, except for Celts.
And the Celts?[edit | edit source]
- Marcach - Stealth javelin horse that replaces h cav. So Celts get no h cav in [2] but have a different set of tools.
Look at Swords of the Prophets for more information.
Appearances[edit | edit source]
Check Kings & Conquerors to see what can be scavenged. Ideally, however, if Hong included heavy spears then Ped. Gallorum is the best bet. And javeleineers, archers?
- Javelineers - naked to the waist. Get out the Belgic Milnaht.
- Bowmen? leave as it is.
Persians[edit | edit source]
- H Inf: Daylamiyan?
- L Inf: Paighan
- Archers: Composite Bowmen?
Horse
- H Cav: Immortals
- L Horse: Asvaran javelin cavalry?
Ships: Dromond.
Chinese, Koreans, Xiongnu[edit | edit source]
No change for infantry, but they get Lancers?
- China, Korea, Japan, Skythoi - Medium Chariot is eventually replaced with Heavy Horse Archer in [2].
Asa result, China:
- H cav: Lancers
- Archer cav: H Horse Archer
- Light cav - uncertain. Hong did not implement this. Perhaps he is waiting for us.
Skythoi[edit | edit source]
- H Cav: => Lancer [2]
- L Cav: => Ret Horse
- Archer Cav: => Heavy Horse Archers [2]
Foot:
- Spear: => Doryphoroi Bosphoroi [2]. Shared with SArmatians
- Heavy Archers
Illyrians[edit | edit source]
Drop the h ship for Illyrians and get them the Lembos when you can. Same for Skythians, and Greeks.
Indians[edit | edit source]
An armoured elephant - Cataphract Elephants - takes over the H cav and Indian elephant for good.
Mercenaries?[edit | edit source]
Only certain groups of mercenaries are available from Warbirth. Arabs, Jungle/Dravidians will definitely make an apperahce.
Full list of mercenaries for this mod:
- Mercenary Camp
- Rong - China, Xiongnu, etc.
- Man - China, Bach Viet. Same as usual.
- Libyan: Egypt, Rome
- Arabs - Egypt, Greeks, Persians
- Africans - Egyptians only
- Sanctuary
- Indians/Kseptrayah/Jungle units - available to India and all Southeast Asian nations - Pyu, Van Lang, etc
- Balkan - become available for Illyrians, Thracians (possibly), Odrysians in [2]
What about Celts?[edit | edit source]
Celts should be given control of all Spanish, European, Celtic mercenaries of Warbirth. Celtic Mercenary Camp, Warrior Hall should come in one age earlier.
So the full roster for Celts is:
- Celts: Uirodusioi fast skirmishers, Fianna hoplites
- Iberians: Ibaranta, Redoi, Ekualakoi (pull Birikantinioi since its superfluous)
- Europeans: European Bowmen (European Spearmen, hurlers and slingers removed since they re superfluous)
- Balkan: Balkan Horsemen, Balkan skirmishers, Balkan Axemen, Balkan Clubmen
Question: Do Mauryans get Greeks, Kushans?[edit | edit source]
Unsure. Would be nice but it is uncertain.
Resource budget[edit | edit source]
So far only Chinese, Indians, Celts, and Easterners (Odrysians, Parthians, etc) need to be worked on.
- First step - change the unit cultre for the Iranian-Scythian-East Euyriopean factions. Plce in a Draconarius as the general.
- Apart from that, not a lot. Probably 20-30 units are required and a lot of them are already in place. Only Roman units - Comitatenses, Numeri, Balestarii - need to be implemented.
