Overall strategy[edit | edit source]

Ciemmerian Cavalry consists of horsemen armed with axes. While this does not make them that effective in battles against some units, such as infantry, it lends them a powerful edge, especially if they are accumulated en masse, and used to hunt down slower enemy units with armour.

As a result, units which can be countered by Cimmerian Cavalry usually are either medium infantry with weak attack parameters, or chariots. This is especially since chariots are slow and expensive, thus they are easy prey for being swarmed by a Cimmerian Horde. In addition, as Cimmerians live by raiding, they are equally also useful for early to mid-game cross-border raiding, owing to their ability to gather loot by attacking enemy economic structures. However, remember that these are very early light cavalry units, so they are highly susceptible to Axial Age cavalry and heavy units. You should replace your Cimmerian Cavalry with Scythian Lancers as soon as you can.
